IL Contractor Wins $5.3M Bridge Contract

The Illinois Department of Transportation has awarded a contract in the amount of $5,298,650.20 to Keeley & Sons Inc. of East St. Louis, IL, for the renovation of the Joe Page Bridge linking Calhoun and Greene County, IL.

Keeley & Sons Inc. of East St. Louis, IL, submitted the winning bid of $5.3 million for the renovation of the Joe Page Bridge, which crosses the Illinois River in Hardin, IL.

Other submissions included bids in the amount of $5,527,857.43 by St. Louis Bridge Construction Company of Arnold, IL, and $6,389,936.93 by Sangamo Construction Company of Springfield, IL.

The contract bid on March 5.  

Scope of Work

Work includes cleaning, recoating and repairing the existing 1,728-foot vertical lift bridge with a 308-foot main span over the Illinois River.

The contractor will oversee abrasive blast-cleaning of structural steel surfaces to a Near White finish (SSPC-SP 10) and spot power tool-cleaning to commercial standards (SSPC-SP 15).

All structural steel surfaces will be recoated with a zinc-rich primer, an epoxy intermediate and a polyurethane finish. Owner-approved manufacturers include Carboline, International Paint, PPG, Ameron (PPG) and Sherwin-Williams.

Existing coatings contain lead. Containment is required.

The awarded contractor will also oversee 791 square yards of thin bridge deck overlay application.
