Bids Due for Bridge Recoat

The Connecticut Department of Transportation is seeking contractors for the cleaning and painting of the Commodore Hull Bridge, located between Derby and Shelton, CT.

Bids, originally due Oct. 19, are now due Nov. 2.

Scope of Work

The project includes recoating the entire steel superstructure of the Commodore Isaac Hull Memorial Bridge. The truss bridge was constructed in 1951 and spans 1,578 feet over the Housatonic River. Additional steel repairs will also be required.

The work is estimated at between $30 million and $39 million.

Contractors interested in performing the cleaning and and coating of the Commodore Isaac Hull Memorial Bridge in Connecticut should submit their bids by Nov. 2.

Steel surfaces will require abrasive blast-cleaning to Near White finish (SSPC-SP 10) and recoated with an inorganic zinc-rich primer, an epoxy intermediate and a polyurethane finish (NEPCOAT List A), or with an organic zinc-rich primer, an epoxy intermediate and a polyurethane finish (NEPCOAT List B).

Approved List A manufacturers are Sherwin-Williams and Carboline. Approved List B manufacturers are PPG (Ameron), Wasser, Sherwin-Williams, International Paint and Carboline.

Class 1 containment will be required for the removal of the existing lead-based paint.

SSPC-QP 1 and QP 2 certifications are also required.
