The City of St. Petersburg, FL, is seeking bids for the cleaning, repair, and recoating of four existing elevated water storage tanks and one surge tank.
Bids are due Feb. 13.
Scope of Work
The project includes cleaning, coating, and miscellaneous repairs on the Crescent Lake elevated tank, Oberly Tanks 1 and 2, Washington Terrace Tank 3, and Cosme 48 Surge Tank. This includes two five-million-gallon water storage tanks; a 500,000-gallon elevated tank; a three-million-gallon elevated tank; and a 400,000-gallon surge tank.

The renovation of the Crescent Lake elevated water tank requires the replacement of approximately 14 spider rods and 12 roof brackets. In addition, contractors will be expected to install a Riser Safety Grate at the top of the riser. Damaged areas may entail installation of patch plates.
All surfaces receiving protective coatings must first be cleaned. Surface contamination will be removed by a high-pressure water wash; interior surfaces above typical high water level will be abrasive-blast cleaned. Spot power cleaning will also be used in several locations. Various epoxy and urethane systems will be required.
About the Structure
The Crescent Lake Water Tower was built in 1926 and designed by manufacturer R.D. Cole Manufacturing Company to meet the need of the Florida Land Boom. The tower reaches 110 feet high and features a spherical tank constructed of riveted steel panels, according to the City of Saint Petersburg. This particular tower is noted to feature a spiral staircase around a central riser.
