4 Tanks Up for Recoating

The City of Pompano Beach, FL, is seeking contractors for the cleaning and recoating of four prestressed concrete ground storage tanks located at a water treatment plant.

Bids are due June 8 from contractors able to clean and recoat four prestressed concrete ground storage tanks in Pompano Beach, FL.

Bids are due June 8.

A mandatory pre-bid conference was held May 10.

Scope of Work

Work will include painting and finishing the exposed exterior of two existing 5-million-gallon ground storage tanks located at a water treatment plant, as well as one 4-million-gallon ground storage tank and one 2-million-gallon ground storage tank located at a reuse water treatment plant.

Contractors will oversee surface preparation of concrete to SSPC-SP 13 surface preparation standards by mechanical, chemical or thermal methods prior to the application of a bonded protective coating or lining system. 

All oil, grease and other debris will be removed prior to painting according to SSPC-SP 1 solvent cleaning standards. Surfaces will require pretreatment prior to prime coat application.

The tank’s exterior will be primed with a waterborne modified polyamine epoxy and then coated with a 3-coat system of a modified waterborne acrylate. Spot coating will be done for areas of bare concrete using the modified waterborne acrylate. The epoxy primer is optional and may be eliminated with the approval of the coatings manufacturer.

Coating brands specified by the owner are Tnemec, Xypex and Chemprobe and may be substituted with equivalent materials upon approval of the engineer.
