Bids are being accepted for repairs to steel girders and concrete surfaces at the Hillsborough River Dam Walkway—a project estimated at $90,000, the City of Tampa announced.
Bids are due July 22. A non-mandatory pre-bid meeting was held July 8.

Bids are due July 22 for repairs and construction of steel and concrete at the Hillsborough River Dam Walkway in Tampa.

The project comprises repairing existing damaged steel girders and existing damaged concrete, as well as furnishing and installing new steel girders and constructing new walkways.
Scope of Work
Existing steel will require spot-power tool cleaning to SSPC-SP 11 (bare metal) and will be coated with an organic zinc-rich primer. New steel will require shop-abrasive blast cleaning to SSPC-SP 10 (Near-White) and will be coated with an inorganic zinc-rich primer and epoxy intermediate and finish coats.
Containment according to SSPC-Guide 6 is required.
Contractors will be expected to perform "soundings" to identify concrete delamination on the surface of concrete elements followed by proper concrete repairs.
Application of a surface applied corrosion inhibitor will be necessary for concrete beam and column surfaces using a penetrating sealant.
About the Structure
The Hillsborough River was the location for Florida's first hydroelectric dam in 1897. The dam was partially destroyed in 1898 "in an act of sabotage thought to be executed by disgruntled cattlemen," according to the City of Tampa.

Significant improvements were made to the dam and hydroelectric facilities in 1925. A record flood washed away the south embankment in 1933, and further reconstruction and expansion of the dam took place in 1945. Numerous other improvements have also been completed over the years.
