A $5,396,928 contract has been awarded to Coastal Marine Construction of Venice, FL, for rehabilitating the Stickney Point Bridge in Sarasota County, the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) announced.
Coastal Marine’s bid bested those of three other firms:

M & J Construction Company ( $6,818,162);

Quinn Construction, Inc. ($6,843,535); and
-
PCL Civil Constructors, Inc. ($8,000,245).
The contract was originally estimated to cost only $4,002,351.
Scope of Work
The project involves making structural, electrical and mechanical upgrades to the seawall, control house and moveable spans of the 47-year-old structure, which crosses the Intracoastal Waterway.

Two lump-sum items for cleaning and coating structural steel surfaces are included in the contract for this dual bascule bridge.
Structural steel will be coated using FDOT standard coating systems. According to standard documents, the FDOT specifies that an organic zinc-rich system be used on existing structural steel.
The contractor will also be required to clean 48,761 square feet of concrete surfaces and remove 387 square yards of bridge deck surfacing by hydrodemolition.
Additional work includes installing 172 wrap pile clusters and restoring 261 cubic feet of spalled concrete using epoxy fill.
