The West Virginia Parkways Authority is seeking contractors interested in recoating the Southbound Yeager Bridge in Kanawha County. The project involves cleaning and spot-coating 110,000 square feet of structural steel surfaces. It is a re-advertisement of a previous bid, which was postponed in October.
A mandatory pre-bid meeting will be held Feb. 11. Bids are due Feb. 22.
Scope of Work
The contractor will oversee cleaning and coating of the structural steel surfaces on the existing through truss bridge, which spans 2,166 feet over the Kanawha River. The steel surfaces will be coated using a 100 percent solids, penetrating epoxy primer and a high-build, polyaspartic aliphatic urethane gloss finish. The products specified for this project are Devoe Pre-Prime 167 and Devoe Devthane 349QC. However, the owner may approve equivalent products.
Class 3P containment according to SSPC-Guide 6 will be required. The contractor must be SSPC-QP 1 certified.
The Yeager Bridge is named for Brigadier General Chuck Yeager, the first pilot to have flown an airplane faster than the speed of sound.
