JOB SUMMARY
We have established a Sensor Technology sub-program which identifies, develops and deploys corrosion sensors and techniques for detection, monitoring and assessment of plant degradation. Sensor technology structure is a part of a dynamic and performance-driven Plant Condition and Integrity Team. The majority of the developed non-intrusive corrosion sensors and techniques are based on ultrasonic and electromagnetic principles.
The Sensor Technology Technician is responsible for assisting the sensor technology engineers in all sensor technology projects and initiatives. The individual will be responsible of sensor technology instrumentation set up, calibration, data collection & presentation and initial interpretation. The individual plays a vital role in the execution of sensor technology operations of the Plant Condition and Integrity Team.
Key Accountabilities: • Set up and run corrosion sensors instrumentation in the laboratory, testing loops and at selected BP sites • Periodically calibrate the instrumentation • Collect experimental data and present the data in tabulated and/or graphical format • Perform an initial data interpretation • Document the experimental set ups • Prepare notes and reports
Essential Criteria & Qualifications: • Associates Degree in Non-destructive Testing (NDT) or high school diploma (Note for the recruiter - see NDT program at Moraine Valley Community College, 9000 W. College Parkway, Palos Hills, IL 60465; phone - 708-974-5735) • American Society of Non-destructive Testing (ASNT) or company Ultrasonic Testing (UT) Level 2 certification • Working experience with ultrasonic thickness measurement techniques, automated ultrasonic testing (AUT), phased array probes, guided waves screening technology and instrumentation such as Epoch 4, Pocket UT, Ultracorr, Focus LT, G3 • Willingness and ability to learn fast new sensor methods and techniques • Strong technical acumen - problem resolution and analytical skills • Ability to effectively interact with co-workers, vendors and site representatives • Ability to effectively work on several projects at one time • Strong written and oral communication skills • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel • Self-motivation; proactive in managing own accountabilities and performance assurance (e.g., attention to detail) • Dependable performance in team that works directly with external vendors and sites • Ability to multi-task; handle multiple experimental priorities on a daily basis • Proactive; seeks ways to improve efficiency of the experiment in an environment that involves troubleshooting and problem solving
