Athens-Clarke County (GA) officials are soliciting bids for cleaning and recoating the elevated city water tank in Athens, GA.
The Athens-Clarke County Public Utilities Department project is estimated to cost between $150,000 and $180,000.
A pre-bid meeting will be held Oct 30. Bids are due Nov 21.
Scope of Work
The project involves application of an epoxy primer and polyurethane enamel topcoat to all exposed exterior steel components and column pier foundations of the elevated storage tank. The "Athens Tech" logo will require painting on the exterior of the tank shell, replacing the current logo.

Bids are being accepted until Nov. 21 for exterior cleaning and recoating work on the 119-foot-tall Athens Tech elevated water tank in Athens, GA.

Repair of damaged surfaces and structural repair will be required, as directed by the city's engineer. Hand tool cleaning to SSPC-SP 2, power tool cleaning to SSPC-SP 3, or pressure washing to SSPC-SP 12 is required to address isolated areas of corrosion or chipping.
Class 2W–3W containment will be required for the existing polyurethane coating, which contains lead.

About the Utility
Athens-Clarke County has three Water Reclamation Facilities that were built in 1962. They currently support enhanced environmental protection materials and produce between two and 14 million gallons per day based on location.
The city, established in 1806, has a population of about 114,000.
