The Harry W. Nice Memorial Bridge project includes structural repairs, cleaning and recoating structural steel surfaces.

The project will involve performing structural repairs to the 1.7-mile-long cantilever truss bridge connecting Dahlgren, VA, and Newburg, MD, over the Potomac River. The work will include cleaning and recoating structural steel surfaces on the north approach truss and panel point 101.
Bids are due Sept. 3.
Scope of Work
The steel will be abrasive blast-cleaned to a Near-White finish (SSPC-SP 10) and recoated with MDSHA System C or D. System C consists of an organic zinc-rich primer, an epoxy intermediate and a polyurethane finish. System D consists of an organic zinc-rich primer and acrylic intermediate and finish coats.
Additional steel will be spot power tool-cleaned to Bare Metal (SSPC-SP 11) and overcoated with MDSHA system E, F, or H. System E consists of an aluminum epoxy-mastic primer, an epoxy intermediate and a polyurethane finish. System F is a moisture-cured urethane system. System H consists of a penetrating sealer, an aluminum-filled epoxy mastic intermediate and a polyurethane finish.
The Harry W. Nice Memorial Bridge last received structural repairs in April 2012, which included coating the beam, girder and approach truss spans.
