The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development is requesting bids to clean and recoat a historic bridge in the state's West Feliciana Parish.
The contract is estimated between $2.5 million and $5 million.
Bids are due Oct. 12.
Scope of Work
The project involves abrasive blast cleaning and recoating the structural steel on the 69-year-old Big Bayou Sara Bridge, a 717.6-foot-long riveted polygonal Warren pony truss bridge on LA 66 over Big Bayou Sara.

Contractors interested in the $2.5-$5 million contract to clean and recoat the Big Bayou Sara Bridge in Louisiana are asked to submit bids by Oct. 12.

The steel will receive a Near White abrasive blast cleaning (SSPC-SP 10), and recoated with an organic zinc-rich coating system; this system is subject to change according to project requirements. Approved manufacturers are Carboline, Sherwin-Williams, Wasser, International Paint and PPG.
The existing coatings contain lead; Class 1A containment according to SSPC Guide 6 is required to capture the existing lead-based coatings. Waste disposal according to Guide 7 is also required.
Interested contractors must also be SSPC-QP 1 and QP 2 certified to perform the work.
The project also includes 8,300 sqare feet of Class 2A special surface finish application for existing concrete; approved manufacturers are BASF, Euclid, Sto, Textured Coatings of America, Sherwin-Williams and Vexcon.
