The Mattabassett District of Cromwell, CT is currently advertising a project to clean and recoat all existing structural steel on two trunk sewer bridge crossings, 260 feet-long and 170 feet-long, over water. The steel will be abrasive blast-cleaned to a Near White finish (SSPC-SP 10) and recoated with a zinc-rich primer, an epoxy intermediate, and a polyurethane finish. Class 1 containment according to SSPC-Guide 6 is required to encapsulate the existing paint system, which contains lead. SSPC-QP 1 and QP 2 certifications are also required. The contractor will be responsible for providing a NACE-certified coatings inspector to perform coatings inspection services. The project also includes performing additional repairs, including replacing existing support cables.
