The New Hampshire Department of Transportation will accept bids in late September for coatings work on the approaches of the Piscataqua River Bridge. The project involves cleaning and recoating 476,000 square feet of existing structural steel surfaces on the 19-span, 1,810 foot-long NH approach of the Piscataqua River Bridge, a 4,503 foot-long x 98 foot-wide cantilevered through arch bridge that connects Portsmouth, NH and Kittery, ME. The steel will be abrasive blast-cleaned to a Near White finish (SSPC-SP 10) and coated with a moisture cured-urethane system. The contract, which requires SSPC-QP 1 and QP 2 certification, includes erecting Class 1A containment to control the emission of the existing lead-bearing coatings. The project also includes coating existing drainpipe surfaces and applying an anti-graffiti finish to seventy-two concrete piers and the south abutment.
