S&K Painting, Inc. of Clackamas, OR, secured a contract of $1,612,895 from the Oregon Department of Transportation to recoat structural steel surfaces on the Union Street Railroad Bridge. The 5-span, 722-foot-long Pratt through truss vertical lift bridge over the Willamette River, which was built in 1912, was recently converted to a pedestrian and bicycle crossing between two parks. The project includes spot-cleaning severely corroded surfaces and overcoating the structure with a moisture-cured urethane system. The existing lead-bearing coatings will be encapsulated by the new paint system.
