North Carolina DOT Lets Drawbridge Painting Project

The North Carolina Department of Transportation will accept sealed bids on December 17th for coatings work and steel grid deck replacement work on the Beaufort Channel Bridge. The project includes cleaning and recoating structural steel surfaces on the 673-foot-long by 28-foot-wide drawbridge, which includes two 68.5-foot-long leaf spans. The steel will be coated with organic zinc-epoxy-polyurethane and aluminum epoxy mastic coating systems. The contract, which requires SSPC-QP 2 certification, includes erecting Class 2A containment (SSPC-Guide 6) to control the emission of the existing lead-bearing coatings into the waterway below.
