The New York Power Authority will accept sealed bids in January 2010 for the refurbishment of intake gates and draft tube gates that are used at the Robert Moses Niagara Power Project, a multi-dam hydroelectric power station on the Niagara River. The contract, with a duration of up to nine years, involves refurbishing up to twenty-seven 78-ton intake gates and up to six 23-ton draft tube gates. The work, which will be performed at the contractor's environmentally controlled repair facility, includes cleaning and recoating the gates. The gates will be abrasive blast-cleaned to a Commercial finish (SSPC-SP 6), inspected and repaired, abrasive blast-cleaned to a Near White finish (SSPC-SP 10), and coated with a 3-coat polyamide epoxy system. The contractor will be required to furnish a NACE-certified coatings inspector to oversee the surface preparation and coatings application, which includes lead-based paint abatement.
