Liberty-Alpha III J.V., LLC, of Campbell, OH, was awarded a contract of $19,689,000 by Amtrak to recoat four through truss spans with a combined length of 1,165 feet on the Thames River Railroad Bridge. The 1,353-foot-long bridge, which includes a new 188-foot-long vertical lift span that was completed earlier this year, connects New London and Groton in Connecticut. The project includes erecting staged containment for the abrasive blast-cleaning and recoating of the steel through truss spans, which were built in 1919. Amtrak, also known as the National Railroad Passenger Corporation, funded the project with its $1.3B allotment from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.
