The Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission will accept sealed bids on January 14th, 2010, for the rehabilitation of the Calhoun Street Bridge over the Delaware River near Trenton, NJ. The 7-span, 1,274-foot-long wrought iron Phoenix Pratt truss bridge was built in 1884, making it the oldest of the commission’s Delaware River crossings. The rehabilitation includes recoating the existing wrought iron bridge components. The iron will be abrasive blast-cleaned to a Near White finish (SSPC-SP 10) and coated with a 3-coat inorganic zinc-based system. The contract includes containment and disposal of the existing lead-bearing coatings according to SSPC-Guide 6 and Guide 7. The owner intends to contract a third-party SSPC/NACE-certified inspector to oversee the coatings work.
