Placer County, CA, will conduct an informational conference and site visit to discuss plans for a $70-million bridge rehabilitation project slated to begin this summer. The meeting, which will be held on February 10th, 2010, will provide an overview of the project for contractors wishing to take part in the effort. Placer County is also currently soliciting proposals for inspection, material testing, and construction management services for the project.
The project involves performing seismic retrofits, repairs, and coatings application on the Foresthill Road Bridge, a 2,428 ft-long x 75 ft-wide steel deck truss that towers 730 feet above the North Fork of the American River. The contract includes applying an inorganic zinc primer to new steel, as well as coating all existing structural steel, including diaphragms, bearings, and guardrail and handrail posts, with an organic zinc primer, an epoxy intermediate, and a urethane finish. The coatings work, with an estimated value of $25M, includes containment of the existing lead-bearing coatings on the structure, which was built in 1972. The project also includes applying a methacrylate penetrating sealer to existing concrete deck surfaces.
