The Mattabassett District awarded a contract of $447,000 to Amstar of Western New York, Inc. of Cheektowaga, NY, to clean and recoat structural steel surfaces on two trunk sewer bridge crossings in Cromwell, CT. Located at Sebethe Drive and White Oak Drive, the crossings are 260 feet and 170-feet-long.
The steel will be abrasive blast-cleaned to Near-White finish (SSPC-SP 10) and coated with a zinc-rich primer, an epoxy intermediate, and a polyurethane finish. The contract includes containment of the existing lead-bearing coatings within a Class 1 containment structure (SSPC-Guide 6.) The project will also require SSPC-QP 1 and QP 2 certifications. The contractor is responsible for providing a NACE-certified coatings inspector to perform inspection services.
