The United States Department of Agriculture, Agricultural Research Service, North Atlantic Area, will accept sealed bids in late July for coatings application and lead abatement on an existing 100,000-gallon-capacity water storage tank located at the Appalachian Fruit Research Station (AFRS) in Kearneysville, WV. The AFRS develops ways to maximize the productivity and quality of fruit products.
The project, which has an estimated value of $500,000-$1,000,000, includes abrasive blast-cleaning and coating interior surfaces with a bio-based, 100%-solids polyurethane system. The contract also includes an add alternate for pressure washing exterior surfaces and an add alternate for abrasive blast-cleaning and coating the exterior. The contract requires containment of the existing lead-bearing coatings and certification by the specified bio-based coatings manufacturer, Prime Coatings.
