360 Construction Company, Inc., of Parma, OH, won a contract of $16,465,475 from the Michigan Department of Transportation for coatings application, lead abatement, and beam repairs on a 0.80-mile-long section of North truss spans on the Mackinac Bridge. The “Mighty Mac” connects Michigan’s upper and lower peninsulas, stretching 26,372 feet over the Straits of Mackinac. The project includes abrasive blast cleaning to SSPC-SP 10 (near white) and recoating 81,300 square yards of structural steel using the MI DOT Standard zinc-epoxy-urethane system. The project also includes coating 36,000 square yards of structural steel with an aluminum epoxy-mastic system. The contract requires SSPC-QP 1 and QP 2 certifications and containment of the existing lead-bearing coatings. KTA-Tator, Inc. of Pittsburgh, PA, was awarded a contract to perform NACE/SSPC-certified inspection services for the project.
