The North Carolina Department of Cultural Resources will accept sealed bids on August 19th, 2010, for exterior painting work on three houses at the Bath State Historic Site. European settlement near the Pamlico River in the late seventeenth century led to the founding of Bath, North Carolina's first town, in 1705. The original town limits are currently preserved as a historic district.
The project includes repainting the exterior surfaces, including doors, windows, trim, and shutters, of three early structures at the historic site: the Palmer Marsh House (a National Historic Landmark), the Van Der Veer House (built circa 1790), and the Bonner House (built during the 1830s). All three homes were once occupied by the influential citizens for whom they are now named.
The exterior surfaces of all three structures will be power-washed with a chlorinated solution, scraped, primed, and repainted by brush. The woodwork will be refinished with an oil-based primer and an exterior-grade, oil-based, semi-gloss finish.
