WVDOT Awards Bridge Painting Project

The West Virginia Department of Transportation awarded a contract of $927,200 to Manganas Enterprises of Canonsburg, PA, SSPC-QP 2-certified, to clean and recoat approximately 355 tons of structural steel on a 3-span, 460-foot-long by 28.5-foot-wide through truss bridge over the Cheat River. The bridge was built in 1932 and last rehabilitated in 1987.
The steel will be abrasive blast-cleaned to a Near White condition (SSPC-SP 10) and recoated with an organic zinc primer and waterborne acrylic intermediate and finish coats. The contract includes controlling the emission of the existing lead and chromium-bearing coatings within a Class 3A containment structure (SSPC-Guide 6) and disposing of the hazardous waste.
