| The 2.1-mile bridge curves 80 degrees to allow ships to pass underneath without a steep incline for vehicles. |
The work includes abrasive-blast cleaning and sealing 346,560 square feet of concrete deck surfaces using 4,335 gallons of a high-molecular-weight methacrylate resin system with sand and absorbent material. Unsound concrete will be removed or repaired and patched with rapid-setting concrete.
The work site includes an Environmentally Sensitive Area. About the Bridge
The San Diego-Coronado Bridge, known locally as the Coronado Bridge, is a prestressed concrete/steel girder bridge that is part of State Route 75.
The curved, five-lane span reaches a maximum height of 200 feet, allowing the U.S. Navy ships that operate out of the nearby Naval Station San Diego to pass underneath it.
The bridge, which carries motor vehicle traffic exclusively, opened in 1969 to mark the 200th anniversary of the founding of San Diego.
