Scope of Work
The project involves cleaning and recoating structural steel surfaces on the Horace Wilkinson Bridge, 14,150 feet long and 80 feet wide, with a 4,550-foot main span.
At 175 feet high, the cantilever truss bridge, which carries six lanes of Interstate 10 from West Baton Rouge to East Baton Rouge, is the highest bridge on the Mississippi River.

The 44-year-old bridge is locally known as the "New Bridge," because it is the younger of the two bridges that cross the river in Baton Rouge.
The steel will be abrasive blast-cleaned to SSPC-SP 10 (near white) and recoated with an organic zinc-rich primer, an epoxy intermediate, and a polyurethane finish.
The existing coatings contain lead; containment according to SSPC-Guide 6 and waste disposal according to Guide 7 will be required. SSPC-QP 1 and QP 2 certifications are also required.
