This phase will include refurbishing the upstream sides of 12 of the 24 spillway gates, which are 38’8” wide and 31’7” wide. An option includes six additional gates. In 2011, six of the upstream sides of the tainter gates were refurbished.
Scope of Work
The project includes:
• Removal of the j-mold seals and all associated fasteners and angle supports;
• Blasting the upstream side of each gate and the angle supports to a near-white finish (SSPC-SP 10);
• Repairing pitting and metal loss with an epoxy filler; and
• Coating with a zinc-rich urethane primer and a coal-tar epoxy system.
Preliminary testing indicates that the existing coatings do not contain lead.

Six of the upstream sides of the tainter gates were refurbished in Phase I of the project in 2011.
