A New Jersey painting contractor has been awarded a maintenance contract valued at nearly $2.5 million to clean and coat eight bridges in South Jersey.
The $2,497,751 contract awarded to Allied Painting Inc., of Franklinville, NJ, reflected the lowest of five bids submitted for the project, which had been estimated at $5 million.
Scope of Work
The project involves cleaning and recoating structural steel surfaces on eight existing bridges that carry Routes 45 and 55 and US 322 over water and roadways in Deptford, Logan and Mantua Townships in Gloucester County, NJ.

The steel will be abrasive blast-cleaned to SSPC-SP 10 (near white) and coated with an organic zinc-rich primer, a high-build epoxy intermediate coat, and urethane finish. The existing coatings contain lead; Class 1A containment according to SSPC-Guide 6 is required, as are SSPC-QP 1 and 2 certifications.
The contractor must also provide a NACE Level 1 certified coating inspector to perform quality control inspection services.
