Wisconsin transportation officials will open bids April 10 for cleaning and rehabilitating Green Bay’s iconic Leo Frigo Memorial Bridge.
Also known as the Tower Drive Bridge and the I-43 Bridge, the Leo Frigo is a 1.51-mile long, 80.1-foot wide, 203-foot-high steel tied-arch bridge over the Fox River. The four-lane bridge opened in 1981 and carries about 35,000 vehicles daily.
Scope of Work
This project involves rehabilitating three existing structures, including cleaning and recoating structural steel surfaces on the Tower Drive Bridge. The steel will be abrasive blast-cleaned using recycled abrasive and recoated with a zinc-epoxy-urethane system.

The project also includes a lump-sum item for negative pressure containment, which implies that the existing coatings contain lead.
The project also includes cleaning and coating 439 existing bearings, 7,951 square yards of protective surface treatment application, and furnishing and applying 20 gallons of clear protective coating.
There are also three additional lump-sum items for debris containment.
