South Carolina officials will accept bids June 21 to repair and paint the Adventure II, a historic replica of a 17th-century colonial trading vessel.

The project involves repairing and recoating the full-scale reproduction of the 53.5-foot wooden vessel, which dates to about 1670. The project includes cleaning and coating underwater body surfaces with anti-foulant.

About the Vessel

The Adventure II is a full-scale historic replica of a 17th-century cargo vessel, docked at South Carolina’s Charles Towne Landing Historical Site.

Renowned 20th-century naval architect and historian William Avery Baker designed the Adventure in 1969. The first Adventure served Charles Towne Landing State Historic Site, SC, from 1970 until 2004. The Adventure II was constructed in 2008 by Rockport Marine in Maine and sailed in October 2008 to the historic site, where it is permanently docked.
