An Ohio industrial painting contractor has been awarded a $2.4 million contract for the first phase of cleaning and painting on West Virginia’s Hospital Bridge over Wheeling Creek.

The West Virginia Department of Transportation accepted the low bid of $2,415,981 from Vimas Painting Co., of Campbell, OH. Five bids, ranging up to $4,516,234, were submitted.
Scope of Work
The project involves cleaning and recoating 2,850 tons of structural steel on the 445-foot-long, 40-foot-wide bridge and two ramps over Wheeling Creek. The existing coatings contain lead; Class 2A containment according to SSPC-Guide 6 will be required.
The steel will be pressure-washed; tested for soluble salts with remediation as needed; abrasive blast-cleaned to SSPC-SP 10 (near white); and coated with an organic zinc-rich primer, an epoxy intermediate, and a polyurethane finish.
