The University of South Carolina is inviting bids for replacing the roof of the McKissick Museum, a project estimated at $150,000 to $250,000. The museum is part of the university’s Columbia campus.

The university will open bids Nov. 13 for the project, which includes installing 8,624 square feet of a liquid-applied flexible acrylic waterproofing system over polyisocyanurate insulation.

The museum collections date to 1801 and provide a rich look at the university’s history.

The structural concrete roof deck will be cleaned and coated with a highly flexible, waterborne, 100% pure acrylic polymer resin foundation, saturation, and finish coats. The finish coat will be a UV-resistant blend. Roof access points will also receive a traffic coating.

About the Museum

Established in 1976, the McKissick Museum is housed in the former library that was built in 1939. The building stands at the heart of the campus’ historic Horseshoe, at the site of the first president’s house.

The University Board of Trustees founded the museum to bring together the many collections owned by individual departments across the campus. Those collections date to 1801 and provide great insight into the university’s long history.

The facility is accredited by the American Association of Museums and is home to the university’s Museum Management Certificate Program.
