$508K Tower Coating Awarded in FL

A Tampa, FL, painting contractor has been awarded a $508,250 contract to clean and recoat utility absorption towers within St. Johns River Power Park (SJRPP), in Jacksonville.

The JEA (formerly Jacksonville Electric Authority) awarded the work to P.R. Steelecoat Inc.

The project involves cleaning and lining about 8,000 square feet of internal tower surfaces at two locations within the facility.

The JEA awarded a $508,250 contract to clean and recoat absorption towers in Tampa.

The tower interiors will be abrasive blast-cleaned to a White Metal Finish (SSPC-SP 5), high pressure-washed with soluble salt remediation or with diluted baking soda, and lined with a trowel-applied novolac vinyl ester lining.

About the Contractor

P.R. Steelecoat Inc. is a consulting and contracting company that has been in operation for more than 15 years. The company specializes in solving corrosion and abrasion problems in industrial, commercial and state and water and wastewater environments.

The utility complex consists of two coal-fired drum boilers and two turbine generators with an output of 640 megawatts per unit. The units were placed into operation in 1987 and 1988. The plant is jointly owned by the JEA and Florida Power and Light.

The JEA serves 420,000 electric, 305,000 water and 230,000 sewer customers in Northeast Florida. It is seventh-largest community-owned electric utility company in the United States and the largest in Florida.
