'Big Mac' Bridge
Constructed in 1957, this suspension bridge connects Michigan’s upper and lower peninsulas over the Straits of Mackinac.
At 26,372 feet long, it is the third-longest suspension bridge in the world, as well as the longest in the Western Hemisphere. Because of its size, the bridge is often nicknamed “Big Mac” or “Mighty Mac.”

About the Project
The project involves abrasive blast cleaning approximately 110,500 square yards of structural steel surfaces, from pier 9 northerly to pier 18, to a Near-White finish (SSPC-SP 10).
After cleaning, the steel will be coated with a MI DOT-standard zinc-epoxy-urethane system.
In addition, the owners are currently soliciting bids for construction inspection services for this project, including NACE-certified coatings inspection.
Reported by Paint BidTracker, a construction reporting service devoted to identifying contracting opportunities for the coatings community.
